Arturo Betancourt
(Mexico b.1972) has been a freelance photographer since 1993, has ventured into various areas such as documentary, travel, landscape and architecture to artistic photography.

 

His work has been exhibited in more than 100 times in different museums, galleries and cultural venues both nationally (Mexico) and internationally, in countries like Argentina, Denmark, Germany, Iceland, India, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain and United States.

 

His work was shown as a photographic reference in the book The Daily Book Of Photography published in 2010 by Walter Foster Publishing, Inc., also in the book Best of Photography 2012 edited by Photographer's Forum Magazine and SIGMA in the U. S. North America, and recently his portfolio was published in Fahrenheit° Magazine, which specializes in Contemporary Art.

 

Arturo has received several awards and distinctions, including the ‘Promoting the Development of Arts Education’ Prize in Visual Arts awarded by the National Council for Culture and Arts of Mexico in 2003 and an Honorable Mention at the III International Exhibition of Digital Art in Argentina in 2006. Back in 2011 and 2014 he was awarded by National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBA) with a scholarship to specialize in Contemporary Photography in the cities of Seville and Malaga, Spain, respectively. He was selected to participate in the 3er Singapore International Photography Festival 2012 with his work "Theatre of Silence". On the other hand, he was selected to participate at the International Emerging Artist Award 2013 online gallery in the United Arab Emirates. Back in 2014 he obtained an Honorable Mention at the Moscow International Photo Award. In this year he was invited by the Festival In Latino in Lithuania and at the 2nd International Photo Biennial Delhi Photo Festival 2015 with his work "Perfect Citizen", which he showed at Chennai Photo Biennale 2016, the year he was also selected with his work "Weightless" at the XII FEMSA Biennial of Contemporary Art, and back in 2018 he was invited to exhibit his work at the Zhou B Art Center in the City of Chicago, USA.

 

His work as a professional photographer always gone hand-in-hand with teaching, his experience dates back to 1994 and continues to teach classes, courses, workshops, training, consulting and conferences on different photographic universities nationwide, such as UNAM, National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM), Meritorious University of Puebla (BUAP), Technological University (UNITEC), Latin American University (ULA), among other universities, besides being a professor of photography at the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBA) since 1997, Institution that recently granted him an Honorable Mention at The Academic Performance Award 2020, recognizing his teaching activity at nationwide Professional Schools of Arts.
